Many patients complain that the traditional mastoid support is painful. This pain creates a nociceptive reflex that creates cervical muscle splinting. The ESS headpiece distributes the head weight for superior comfort and muscle relaxation
Balancing the skull on a rounded mastoid is like balancing a broom in your hand. The rounded mastoid wants to roll and the single point of contact makes the skull unstable. The ESS headpiece offers 3 points of contact to the patients skull.
The traditional headpiece stabilizes a rounded mastoid against a flat surface. When modifying the tilt of the headpiece it changes contact with the mastoid but does not alter head tilt. The ESS headpiece allows the doctor to influence head tilt freely.
The ESS headpiece is customize-able for different shaped heads. A lower sliding pivot allows the doctor to keep the atlas centered in the table regardless of the side of the adjustment. The superior sliding pivot accounts for small or large skulls.
The skull supports are now controlled by a joystick in the upper right corner. Press for 2 seconds to turn the head piece on or off.
Above all, the most important aspect of the ESS headpiece is the confidence it gives the doctor that the head is stable, the patient is relaxed and properly positioned, and they are about to deliver the most specific adjustment in the world.
This video covers how to install the headpiece and how it functions.
